Yoga as a therapy is a relatively modern concept as far as yoga is concerned (only around 100 years old) that integrates traditional yogic concepts and techniques with Western medical and psychological knowledge.
In short, meridian therapeutic yoga is a habit-changing therapy – a system where we look to replace old, bad habits with new, healthier ones.
To learn more about therapeutic yoga and the functions of Meridian Yoga Therapy specifically, read about the COTY style of yoga.
If you’ve considered turning yoga teaching into a professional career in the Complementary Health industry, we can help you obtain the qualifications you need.
This 1,800 hour (18 month) Advanced Diploma course is the highest qualification in yoga therapist training in Australia and is at the cutting edge of yoga therapy today.
In Meridian Yoga Therapy, the health of the mind and body are monitored and improved through manipulating the breath, traditional yoga movement, and the balance of energy flow (Qi Meridians).
You will study the principles of oriental medicine theory to understand how our energy or qi (ki, chi) moves through channels within the body, known as meridians, and how these are seen in yoga therapy as the natural healing channels of the body.
Throughout the course you will learn to help individual clients with their mental and physical health by improving the functionality and structural stability of their body, safely guiding and developing tools for the client to utilise to restore balance into lives.
Emphasis is on the practical application of the skills and knowledge required to teach condition-based groups and individual meridian therapeutic yoga postures and movements.
You will study the concepts required to assess, diagnose and treat conditions with yoga therapy, adapting classic asanas and movements by changes in body positioning, breathing, and points of focus to help improve their health and wellbeing and address chronic illness and injuries.
You will also learn how to integrate these skills into multimodal therapy treatments with other health care professionals for a successful career in the allied health care community.
