ONLINE COURSE Beyond the Mat: A Study of Yoga
Yoga is not a religion. It is a science, science of well-being, sence of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind and soul.’ – Amit Ray
There is a lot more to yoga than just the postures which to put very simply is why it makes us all feel so good.
In this course, we look at ways to bring the foundational ideas and philosophies that support our favourite practice into our everyday activities.
To help us make sense of the ancient philosophies that have shaped yoga throughout history we will take a closer look at the key developmental stages. From the shrouded sacred medieval origins over 5000 years ago, through to more readily available practices in the east. A journey that has seen changes from the influences of orient medicine practice through to the emergence of modern postural yoga styles in the West.
This course will open discussion on the relevance of yoga to our community, our changing attitudes to health, happiness, and the true meaning of well-being. How to interpret the messages and texts that influenced the developing attitude towards the wellness of the mind, body and spirit in Australia and the world today.
